HOW TO WEAR VINTAGE WITH MODERN CLOTHES

Vintage fashion is all about expressing your own individual style and that's why I love it so much! I often find unique pieces that work very well with modern day style. Fashion repeats itself and current trends are often influenced by designs from previous eras. But how to find and wear it to suit your individual style? Here are my top 3 rules for wearing vintage and modern clothes:

1. THE 50/50 RULE

First of all, let me tell you that there's nothing wrong with wearing a head to toe, all vintage everything outfit. It all depends on your style, what kind of a look you're going for and the occasion or time of the day you are dressing for. For special occasions like weddings, I always break away and wear most vintage but in this case, it's a day time look that is suitable for work where sequin on sequin may not be appreciated. I always look for smart blazers as they are a great basic to work around with. I found this vintage velvet blazer in a men's section and it works really well with a pair of denim. This vintage 80's, Edwardian style blouse is my all time favourite vintage find and again it's perfect with a pair of jeans.

2. DEFINE YOUR OWN STYLE AND LOOK FOR ALTERNATIVES IN THE VINTAGE STORES

What's your style? If you love the feminine, ladylike style, look around for vintage skirts that you can wear with modern tops and blouses. Or maybe have a look in you mother's wardrobe for a cardigan and a neck scarf that you can wear with a modern dress? The boho chic look is very popular this summer and the vintage stores are filled with 1970's dresses that can be worn with modern accessories, there's plenty of choices in the high street stores, the sandals and sun hats are particularly good!

3. CONTEMPORARY ACCESSORIES

I'm not a huge fan of handbags (I have a one shopper bag that I carry absolutely everything in and that's enough for me) but I'm a massive shoe addict. I'm wearing lots of vintage and I'm always looking for a trendy "now" shoes. I think for that reason the shoe trends are the only one I follow and I'm interested in. I believe that shoes can make or break an outfit.

Having said all that, please remember that fashion should be fun and rules are for breaking so wear whatever is making YOU happy!
